Rainbow Death | |
America did not foresee Green, pink, purple and other colors death potpourri! Expecting others to pay a high price. Now thinking twice? Toll on the innocent and unborn. Omnipotent and disregarding who will mourn. Reflective about all the illness, birth defects and prematurely dead. All the deceit continues to spread. Nefariously America led astray - Generations untold WILL pay - Execrable effects of agent orange spray! by Hubert Wilson Rainbow Death Conflict This conflict occurred during the Vietnam War from 1962 to 1971. The reason why this conflict was significant both to the Vietnamese and the Americans was because of the Americans engaging in Herbicidal Warfare with their gas weapon code named “Agent Orange”. Agent Orange is the code name for a herbicide and defoliant, contaminated with TCDD, used by the U.S. military in its Herbicidal Warfare program during the Vietnam War. This Herbicide weapon cased much agony and deaths of the Vietnamese people due to its horrific effects, Birth Defects and disabilities. Agent Orange was by far the most widely used herbicide in the range of herbicides developed by the American Army called “Rainbow Herbicides” which ranged from Agent Blue to Agent White. Agent Orange resulted in 400,000 deaths and disabilities along with 500,000 children born with birth defects. Analysis of Rainbow Death 1. Point of View (Elaboration): This poem is written in a first person point of view which zooms in the situation as a whole, this point of view sufficiently shows the horrors and pain the Americans had caused even on the innocent Vietnamese people. This is evident from “America did not foresee”, “Now Thinking Twice?”, “Nefariously America led astray”. This shows their wrongdoing and urgent need to stop such chemical warfare to prevent any more agony to occur. It could also be written in a third person point of view because “America” which is repeated in the poem for its wrong acts from their herbicide weapon could instead be personified as another person in the poem. 2. Situation and Setting (Elaboration): The situation as stated in “Rainbow Death” is extremely dire and poses as a great threat to the Vietnamese people and this situation takes place in a setting combining both history ( “New step towards Herbicide Warfare for the Americans”) and agony ( Horrific effects of Agent Orange). The nature of this conflict is a combination of ethics and social characteristics. “ America did not foresee” and “Green, pink, purple and other colour deaths potpourri” shows that America did not expect or want to cause this much suffering to their opponents. Furthermore, the above poem was an example of a successful biological weapon being produced. This may result in the advancement in such horrific weapons.“Generations untold WILL pay”-“Execrable effects of the Orange Spray” shows that the horrific effects of the “Agent Orange” Spray will be passed on to the next generation of Vietnamese people, as the chemical weapon causes birth defects. This amplifies the feeling of pain and suffering for the Vietnamese as the weapon not only affects them, but also their offspring. 3. Language and Diction ( Elaboration ) :The Language used conveys the poet’s main message as it is used to reveal the truth behind the American’s herbicidal weapons in the Vietnam War. Personification is used as America was personified as a person causing untold suffering towards the Vietnamese people. The Diction magnifies the speaker’s tone which seems sarcastic. This is evident from “America did not foresee” and “Now thinking twice?”, this had established the tone of sarcasm. Despite America not being able to foresee the pain and agony the herbicides would cause to the people to such a great extent , they failed to think twice before using the biological weapon as seen from the “?” , implying that even after the Americans realised the horrific effects of herbicidal warfare , they continued to use such a weapon, signifying their little regret and guilt. Moreover, “Nefariously America Led astray” and “Generations untold will PAY” implies more of a tone of irony. America consistently took part in herbicidal warfare which led to America going against its principle of freedom and morale, America’s thirst to defeat the enemy had overwhelmed their principals which in turn will cause not only physical harm, but also mental harm to the Vietnamese. 4 Personal Response (Elaboration): I found the poem disturbing. The poem takes us out of our comfort zone as we normally see America as a country which believes in freedom and righteous ideals, but yet, we have here, a poem which describes the cruelty of the minds of the Americans, willing to sacrifice their ideals in their lust for victory. The descriptions made by the poet to signify the suffering of the Vietnamese also add to the feeling of sorrow and sadness |

NAPFA test *OH NOES!!@#$%^&*()_+*
GIVE ME A NA!
GIVE ME A P!
GIVE ME A F!
GIVE ME A A!
WHAT DOES IT SPELL???
NAPFA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NA:National
P:Physical
F:Fitness
A:Assessment
As you can infer from the acronym above, the NAPFA test is a test, that tests the endurance, strength, skill and guts of every student in the Singapore education system.
Yes, it is a grueling trial taken by many, yet most do not come out happy. It is a part of the culture of the students in Singapore. Those who fail, will be looked down upon by their peers, and become outcasts of the community for the rest of their life. It is a part*RECORD SCRATCH*
disclaimer: the above information if completely false. Except for the part about the acronym.
The NAPFA test however, is still an important part of a Singaporean's life. For the guys, failing it means extra time in National Service (and we don't want that, now do we? NO we don't.). Otherwise, it is still significant, as it is a good indicator of your physical condition.
Being a person who is more academically inclined does not help the fact that I may have to go for those horrible extra time in National Service. :(

Happiness in modern society
SO, many of you may think that $$$ = : ).
With many of the advances in technology, life has certainly improved for most people. However, these advances come at the cost of heavier and more stressful workloads, stress from competing with others etc. Many do not like the above and hence, that leads me to think, would we be actually happier than we would have been if we did not have these advances in our lives.
CITED FROM WIKIPEDIA:
Bhutan balanced modernization with its ancient culture and traditions under the guiding philosophy of Gross National Happiness (GNH). Rampant destruction of the environment has been avoided. The government takes great measures to preserve the nation's traditional culture, identity and the environment. In 2006,Business Week magazine rated Bhutan the happiest country in Asia and the eighth-happiest in the world, citing a global survey conducted by the University of Leicester in 2006 called the "World Map of Happiness".[8]
Using the extract, we can come to the conclusion that the advances in our lives, do not necessarily mean happiness.
Bhutan may not be a world power like China and the United States, but the people in Bhutan actually have a more
satisfactory lifestyle than their counterparts in the more advanced countries.

Multiple Intelligence test
Hi.
I recently took a multiple intelligence test, as I did last year as part of my english/literature education.
I was really surprised when the tests results came out significantly different from that of last year's.

SPOT THE DIFFERENCE!!!!!!!
(difference in shape not counted)
As you can see by the first diagram, my main strengths are Math-logical and intrapersonal.
HOWEVER, look at the second picture
Look at this second one. It says that I am better at being intrapersonal and interpersonal.
As you can see from both diagrams, both say that I am good at being intrapersonal.
However, the other values greatly differ.
But because the newer one is probably more accurate, I am going to use it for the task.
Intrapersonal c.
Tom Robinson's diary:
*on the day before the trial*
Oh dear, what am I to do? I know I am innocent, but what use would that be? The whites all think that just because I am a coloured person, it means that I am definitely guilty. Why does Mayella do this to me? I just wanted to help her and sympathised with her. So many unanswered questions. I just hope Mr. Finch knows what he is doing.
Interpersonal.
Me: What are your views on Prejudice and discrimination as a whole?
Anonymous: I think that the world in itslef is unfair. Take newborn children as an example. Every child is born different. For example, some are born into richer families, some into poorer ones. As such, it is difficult to have equality. As a result, groups of people who fear people who are different or better than them will most likely discriminate against them to suppress their fears or to make themselves superior over the others.
Me: Use Singapore as an example. We have a racially equal society with FOUR different races and religions living together as one big family. Do you think there is a way to let other countries or societies do the same?
Anonymous: It will be difficult for other countries as some have a long running history of racial discrimination. Therefore, it will be difficult for them to coexist with each other(people of different races). Singapore is an exception as the government has started the idea of racial equality since the beginning. Singapore has also had its share of racial problems. However, other countries have also improved their relationships between differing races. Take America as an example. During the era after the Civil rights war, the blacks and whites were segregated and were treated very differently. But, look at America now. Most of the whites in America have cast aside their differences with the blacks and have even elected a black president.
Me: Discrimination and Prejudice-- which do you think is the more important factor??
Anonymous: Prejudice. As prejudice leads to discrimination, people who are discriminated against naturally have a less conducive environment to live in. For example, blacks have been discriminated against durinng the time bewteen the civil rights war and the civil rights movement. Blacks received a less adequate learning environment, some were not even educated, leading some blacks at the time to do things that were "inadequate". This leads to whites having the impression that blacks were of a lower class than them and look down on them. Thus, they were given a less conducive environment, and less education, leading to a vicious cyle. However, people will eventually realise that not all blacks are bad and their mindset will change.
Me: That's it. Thank you for your time in this interview.
Anonymous: You are welcome.

Rant on Taiwanese drama shows
*watches one episode of a Taiwanese drama show*
MMMYYYYY EEEEYYYYEEEESSSS!!!!! THEY BUUUURRRRRNNNN!!!!!!
AAAARRRRGHGHG!HG!!!!!
Okay, so it was exaggerated, but they are really, really, that horrible.
Its mainly about a group of people fighting each other, doing bad stuff to each other, and more sabotaging between two clearly split factions of good and bad people.
(At least that was my take on the show)
Why can't we just live together in harmony???
I do not even get why these shows are so popular among the older 'aunties and uncles' of Singapore. The show does'nt even have a proper storyline!
WTH!!??
Moving on, we have the acting. I have seen better effects and acting from a primary 1 performance.(no offence, ehehehe, sorry) I mean, the acting was TERRIBLE. T.E.R.R.I.B.L.E.
Its not realistic at all. The actors look as if they were being forced to say the lines, instead of puttng any effort into it. except for a few exceptions. The special effects were even worse. Its like smoke, lighting and flying people all jumbled up in one messy package of sorrow.
Here's one of my notes I wrote on Facebook last year. Excuse me for the internet and coarse language though.
After 8 hundread and seventy something episodes, the horrible bastardry that is the taiwanese show, “意难忘“ has finally ended..HUZZAH! I cannot stress how much this extraordinary event would benefit Singapore and the rest of all multicellular or single-celled organisms and their society. Take pride, for soon, there will be another apocalyptic Shitty drama coming up on channel 8 for senior citizens to watch, and to reduce our intellect to nothingness. Yes, this is one of the most amazing achievements mankind has achieved. Through our willpower and determination alone, we have finally triumphed over the HORROR.Of course, we cannot be complacent. We have to prepare ourselves for the next wave of DOOM. Below are some suggestions to prevent your sanity from being shredded to smithereens and your brain degenerating into nothingness:1.BRING A GAME CONSOLE OR LAPTOPThis is the best method yet...(obvious :P) having games to entertain yourselves with is a good way to prevent your sanity from being absorbed into the dark, creepy abyss that is the taiwanese drama.2.DistractionMeh....what it says...3.Screw it allSmash the telly, or cut off your electricity supply. Whatever it takes to kill the show. Under really rare circumstances, if your gran-gran has a mobile phone with clips of that work of !@#$%^&**(()(&^$#%$%^&*()_}{{~!@/*/***.. , then....To learn moar, clicky on the blue coloured piece of text below:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=St0CSzMwK3QAnd this concludes my speech. Remember to stay 1337 and stay away from chinese dramas. REMEMBER, AN APPLE A DAY KEEPS TAIWANESE CRAPPY DRAMA SHOW PRODUCERS AWAY.Thank You...*cue dramatic music*
OF COURSE THIS NOTE WAS MEANT AS A JOKE. WHO COULD POSSIBLY BEAR HIS/HERSELF TO SMASH A PERFECTLY GOOD TELEVISION SET!?!??!?!

January 2010: The month of PAIN
OUCH....
Ok, so its not that bad, but it still hurts.
The amount of injuries, cramps etc. has increased drastically recently.
With some estimation, i have come to the conclusion that the amount of pain experienced last year is nothing compared to that of January 2010.
